Duraloy
helps customers save millions!
Duraloy has been working with CSP hot mills to allow them to
achieve millions of dollars of savings in natural gas
purchases in their tunnel furnaces (slab reheat furnaces).
With the invention and development of Duraloy's MO-RE 2150®
alloy, and the skyrocketing cost of natural gas, dry rolls
have now become the economical alternative to water cooled
rolls throughout the furnace.
Traditionally, dry tunnel
furnace rolls have only been used in the shuttle sections of
tunnel furnaces of CSP hot strip mills. Water cooled rolls were
used in the rest of the furnace, because they were less costly
on the front end and the cost of natural gas (at $2-$3 mmBtu)
was not a major concern.
With natural gas surpassing $11
mmBtu in May of 2008, and Duraloy's development of a new alloy,
MO-RE 2150®,
specifically for dry tunnel furnace rolls, mill operators have
found that the net result of converting water cooled rolls to
dry rolls throughout their furnaces is a net reduction in
overall cost that exceeds millions of dollars per year. By using
MO-RE 2150® in the furnace rolls, dry rolls can now be used in
all areas of the furnace.
